Recreation Subgroup

The group meets twice per year and is run by its own Steering Group. Please contact the Solent Forum Office for more details.

The aim of the Solent Forum Recreation Subgroup is to provide a cost-effective mechanism to coordinate the implementation of strategic recreation related actions.

The objectives of the group are:

To provide guidance on managing, protecting and improving water based recreational access and enjoyment
To coordinate actions arising from Strategic Guidance for the Solent and other documents as identified.
To identify, support and complement the work of relevant authorities and other agencies with water-related recreation management responsibilities
To establish a network for discussing water based recreation issues.
To identify and coordinate management, research and monitoring projects.
To identify funding/grant streams relevant to recreation and research and establish partnerships for relevant bids to ensure sufficient resources to commence the programme of actions

This group leads on the Recreation Audit project. This is a review of the recreational use of the Solent coast and levels of participation. Research will finish in summer 2009 with the data published in the Autumn.
