Chichester Harbour Conservancy
Chichester Harbour Conservancy (CHC) VolunteersVolunteering projects are as diverse as coppicing, reed bed management, envelope stuffing, litter collection, archaeology field walking and many more. To receive a pack detailing all the volunteer opportunities please send your details to the Harbour Office.
Volunteers are organised through:
Friends of Chichester Harbour where opportunities exist for:
- Helping on Work Parties (hedging, tree-planting, reed-cutting, coppicing and woodland management, shoreline monitoring and litter clearance, bird-hide construction)
- Survey and Monitoring (bird surveys, egg counts, plant counts, stream surveys and maintenance)
- Administration (Newsletter production).
Chichester Conservation Volunteers (CCV) carry out conservation activities every Sunday throughout the year at a variety of sites around Chichester including the Harbour. There is no subscription, tools and training are provided and there are jobs for all abilities.
Harbour Watch
Each of the 28 sections of the Harbour has been adopted by a Harbour Watch volunteer. Each month the volunteer walks their section and reports back to the Harbour Office on such things as the state of the footpaths and sea defences. Litter is also collected and either disposed of by the volunteer or left in a designated area and then collected later by water by Conservancy staff.
